Beat writer praises Steelers' signing of Sebastian Joseph-Day

Pittsburgh Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly has praised the team's free agency addition of defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day, calling him a potential difference-maker. Kaboly highlighted how Joseph-Day strengthens the unit alongside players like Keeanu Benton, Derrick Harmon and Cameron Heyward. The move addresses past depth issues on the defensive line.

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to bolster their defensive line after investing draft picks in 2025 and adding veterans. Mark Kaboly, appearing on 93.7 The Fan’s Morning Show, expressed optimism about the recent signing of Sebastian Joseph-Day from free agency. “I like what they did with their defensive line. I think the defensive line all of a sudden got really strong,” Kaboly said. “He’s gonna be a difference-maker. Throw him in there with [Keeanu] Benton, and [Derrick] Harmon, and [Cameron] Heyward…you don’t have to dip down to the depths of the [Isaiahh] Loudermilks or so. You have four really solid players right there.” Joseph-Day played in all 17 games over the last two seasons, recording 41 tackles, two sacks and six tackles for loss in 2025—stats that would rank third among Steelers defensive linemen from the prior year. Previous attempts to improve depth with Daniel Ekuale and Dean Lowry were hampered by injuries. The Steelers still hold 12 draft picks and could add talents like Georgia’s Christen Miller or Alabama’s Tim Keenan III. Players such as Yahya Black, Derrick Harmon and Esezi Otomewo provide further depth. This comes as the team seeks consistency in stopping the run amid a coaching staff change and new defensive philosophy.
