Chipichape breastfeeding cabin to be installed at MIO station

Cali's Chipichape shopping center will install its mobile breastfeeding cabin at the Cañaveralejo MIO station in a pilot phase coordinated with public entities. This pioneering initiative in Colombia aims to foster inclusive urban environments for nursing mothers. The cabin provides privacy, comfort, and hygiene, with health certification.

The project began two years ago at Chipichape shopping center, becoming Colombia's only site with a mobile breastfeeding cabin. Now, partnering with the Presidency of Cali's Council, Metro Cali, and Cali's Health Secretariat, it expands to the Cañaveralejo station, a key MIO Cable hub used by thousands daily.

The cabin meets privacy, comfort, and hygiene standards, certified by the Health Secretariat. In the pilot, mothers can use it to feed their babies in dignified conditions while traveling. A mobile Listening Center for psychological guidance will also be available.

"For a little over two years, we've been working on an initiative that shows how the private sector can drive real societal transformations," said Bibiana Barakat, manager of Centro Comercial Chipichape. She added that the model could be replicated nationally and internationally, promoting more inclusive cities.

This public-private partnership highlights the initiative's potential as a benchmark for public policy, positioning Cali as a model for urban well-being.
