Egypt has been added to the list of countries authorized to export aquaculture products to the European Union for the first time, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced. The authorization covers finfish, their products, and crustaceans, following Egypt's fulfillment of EU technical requirements. The EU decision is scheduled for formal adoption in a quarter of 2026.
The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) announced that Egypt has been added to the list of countries authorized to export aquaculture products to the European Union for the first time. The authorization includes finfish, their products, and crustaceans, after Egypt implemented a monitoring system for veterinary drug residues and met EU technical requirements.
The EU decision is set for formal adoption during one of the quarters of 2026 and will take effect 20 days after official approval. This achievement resulted from coordination between national authorities and international partners, including the submission of technical evidence proving full compliance with EU quality and control systems, the NFSA stated.
Domestically, the authority is advancing regulatory procedures such as reviewing and certifying facilities, implementing traceability systems, and expanding laboratory testing capabilities. It is also preparing technical files for composite food products containing multiple ingredients, including dairy or animal-origin components, for submission after expected amendments in the third quarter of this year.
The NFSA said the approval enhances the competitiveness of Egypt's aquaculture sector, supports national exports, and contributes to economic growth. The authority expressed gratitude to all national and international entities involved.
