Hundreds of insurance claims after storm Dave

Storm Dave battered Skåne and Sweden's west coast with strong winds, leading to hundreds of insurance claims. Folksam expects about half as many cases as after storm Johannes in 2025, while If and Trygg-Hansa each report around 300 so far. Common damages include fallen trees and roof issues on homes and summer houses.

Storm Dave swept through Skåne and Sweden's west coast, with SMHI recording gale-force gusts at coastal stations. Winds reached 29 metres per second in central Gothenburg, leaving 30,000 households without power and cancelling ferries. Skåne was on the storm's southern edge, but coastal areas experienced storm-strength winds.

Insurance companies are now processing numerous claims. Folksam's press officer Marcus Haglund estimates Dave will produce about half as many cases as Johannes, which caused 1,000 claims in northern Sweden over Christmas 2025. "Dave was not as prolonged and did not affect as many," he said.

Both If and Trygg-Hansa have received around 300 reports so far. If's press chief Emma Nilsson says fallen trees appear most common, while Trygg-Hansa's Cecilia Magnusson details damage to villas and holiday homes, such as trees crashing onto houses and lost roof tiles, plus vehicle and commercial property claims.

Folksam's Tobias Håkansson advises affected homeowners to cover damages to prevent worsening but cautions against risks. Home and villa policies cover storm damage from winds over 21 metres per second, including some garden and tree damage in certain plans.
