Indonesian students at Al-Azhar offer solutions to Indonesia Darurat protest demands

Indonesian students at Al-Azhar University in Egypt have prepared four policy briefs in response to five demands from student protests in Indonesia.

Students in the Kita Tumbuh Mesir group examined root causes and proposed a paradigm shift in state budget management. They recommended Zero-Based Budgeting and consolidation of government digital platforms into a single national system.

On staple goods and fuel prices, the students urged refined subsidy mechanisms through better data integration. They did not recommend halting the Free Nutritious Meals Program and Village Red-White Cooperatives, instead suggesting sharper beneficiary targeting and stronger cooperative governance.

On civil-military relations, the study emphasized clarifying authority boundaries according to each mandate. The students also called on the government to increase fiscal information transparency to build public trust.

The policy briefs are being processed for official submission to the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo as a contribution from the Indonesian diaspora.
