KeNHA lists seven alternative routes as Nairobi-Nakuru highway jam hits day 5

In an update to its earlier festive travel advisory, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has detailed seven alternative routes for motorists facing ongoing severe congestion on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, now in its fifth day amid the Christmas rush. The authority continues to collaborate with the National Police Service to manage traffic.

KeNHA issued a statement on December 24, 2025, noting persistent heavy traffic on the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Road (A8) and Rironi-Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Road (A8 South), following four days of snarl-ups previously reported due to lane indiscipline, minor accidents, road repairs, and holiday traffic spikes.

The seven suggested detours are: Thika-Magumu-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru; Flyover-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru; Naivasha-Njabini-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru; Gilgil-Olkalou-Dundori-Lanet-Nakuru; Ngong-Suswa-Narok-Mau Narok-Nakuru; Nakuru-Kampi ya Moto-Eldama Ravine-Makutano; and Nakuru-Njoro-Mau Summit.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, maintain lane discipline, and follow traffic rules. Both lanes on sections of the single-carriageway remain affected, with some stranded overnight. KeNHA emphasizes cooperation for safe travel.
