Africa-France summit in Nairobi to draw 4000 delegates and 30 presidents

Nairobi will host a major Africa-France summit from May 11-12, bringing together over 4000 delegates and 30 African presidents for the first time in a non-French-speaking country.

The summit, co-hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron, will focus on debt reform, climate change, peace and security, and technology and innovation. Expected attendees include UN Secretary-General António Guterres and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

Kenya has announced extensive security measures, with road closures affecting City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue and Taifa Road from the night of May 11. Nairobi Police Commander Issa Mohamud said officers will coordinate with the Kenya Defence Forces, National Youth Service, and French and UN security teams, urging public cooperation.

Additional traffic disruptions are expected on routes including Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road and Kiambu Road through May 12 due to VIP movements.
