Premier Li Qiang calls for new energy security strategy

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for implementing a new energy security strategy, advancing a new-type power grid, and optimizing the energy structure to support high-quality development. He made the remarks during a field survey in Sichuan province from March 30 to April 1, visiting Chengdu and Deyang.

Premier Li Qiang conducted a field survey in Sichuan province from March 30 to April 1, stressing the implementation of a new energy security strategy, the construction of a new-type power grid, and the optimization of the energy structure to provide strong support for high-quality economic and social development.

In Chengdu, he visited the Tongwei Global Innovation R&D Center, where he received briefings on photovoltaic technology breakthroughs and observed battery component production. Li noted that advancements in photovoltaic technology have effectively increased solar energy utilization. He urged strong support for enterprises to boost innovation, increase R&D investment, overcome key technological bottlenecks, integrate application scenarios, and accelerate large-scale adoption of new technologies.

At Yalong River Hydropower Development Co in Chengdu, Li learned about the company's hydropower-wind-photovoltaic integrated base and new-type power grid construction in Sichuan. He pointed out that building such a grid is crucial for energy security and green development, emphasizing the need for a safe, reliable, green, low-carbon, and resilient power system. Noting Sichuan's role as a key clean energy base, he called on the province to lead in clean energy development and related industries.

In Deyang, at Sinomach Heavy Equipment Group Co and Dongfang Electric Machinery Co, Li encouraged firms to target technological frontiers, integrate artificial intelligence with manufacturing, and achieve breakthroughs in clean energy equipment. He also inspected the Zipingpu water control project on the Minjiang River and a wheat yield demonstration zone in Guanghan, stressing water conservancy modernization and spring plowing efforts.

Li's remarks align with China's plan, outlined in last month's Government Work Report at the 14th National People's Congress, to strengthen the energy sector this year through smart grids and green electricity promotion.
