The Cincinnati Reds snapped a three-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday at Great American Ball Park. Nathaniel Lowe's three-run double highlighted a four-run first inning in their new City Connect uniforms. Starter Brandon Williamson escaped early threats despite walking six batters.
Cincinnati jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Angels starter George Klassen. Spencer Steer drew a one-out walk, Elly De La Cruz singled and stole second, and Sal Stewart's grounder was misplayed by Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel, allowing Steer to score. Eugenio Suárez walked to load the bases before Lowe pulled a three-run double down the right-field line. Steer added a solo homer in the second, his second of the season, extending the lead to 5-0. The Reds had entered the day with the fewest runs in MLB at 41, scoreless or limited to two runs in seven games. Reds pitcher Brandon Williamson walked six over four innings but limited damage early. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second with a double play and allowed one run in the third. In the fourth, two walks set up Mike Trout's two-run double, trimming the lead to 5-3. Cincinnati added two more runs later for the final 7-3 margin, improving to 9-6.
