Replaced launches with crashes on Xbox Series S

Replaced, a 2.5D platformer from Sad Cat Studio and publisher Thunderful, released on PC and Xbox on April 14. The Xbox Series S version experiences a memory-related crash between Chapters 4 and 5 during single sessions, along with broken ending cinematics. Developers confirmed the issues to IGN and plan a patch for April 15.

Replaced combines action and environmental puzzles in an alternate 1980s dystopian cyberpunk setting. The game has received positive early reviews, scoring 81 on Metacritic based mainly on PC playthroughs, with many 8s and 9s offset by a few lower marks. However, the Xbox Series S launch has been marred by technical problems not seen on PC or Xbox Series X. Developers at Sad Cat Studio told IGN: “on Series S, the game may suffer a memory-related hang in the transition between Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 if the game has been played in a single session up to this point.” The ending cinematics also fail to play properly on Series S. A temporary workaround involves quitting and restarting the game to avoid RAM exhaustion during the chapter transition. Thunderful expects a fix via a patch entering Microsoft's certification process on April 15, with rollout to follow shortly after. The issues highlight ongoing challenges in achieving parity across Xbox hardware generations, even for a pixel-art title like Replaced.
