Six police suspended after explosives found near Modi route

Six police personnel were suspended in Bengaluru for negligence after explosives were discovered near the route taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 10.

The suspensions were ordered by Superintendent of Police Bengaluru South Srinivas Gowda. They involved a sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector and four constables who were on bandobast duty.

A suspicious box was spotted by a constable at around 9 a.m. near Vaderahalli Gate, roughly two hours before the Prime Minister’s arrival at the Art of Living Foundation Ashram. The bomb disposal squad examined the box and confirmed it contained explosive materials.

Security agencies conducted a full re-check of the route before the convoy proceeded. Police sources said investigations continue into how the explosives reached the location.
