Sumatra electricity system returns to normal

PT PLN (Persero) completed restoration of the electricity system across Sumatra following a widespread outage on Friday, May 22, 2026.

By Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 06:00 WIB, PLN had normalized 176 affected substations.

Electricity supply to customers has been gradually restored. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the entire recovery process was carried out intensively since the disruption began.

"Thanks to the tireless hard work of all personnel in the field and support from the Ministry of ESDM and various parties in the regions, the Sumatra electricity system has now returned to normal," Darmawan said.

PLN collaborated with the government and regional stakeholders to normalize the generation, transmission, substation, and distribution systems. Darmawan expressed gratitude to the public for their patience during the recovery process.
