Danantara's Operational Director Dony Oskaria announced the groundbreaking for railway line electrification on May 20, 2026, targeting the Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Sukabumi, and Jakarta-Cilegon routes. The project aims to revive new cities along the lines, reduce pollution, and boost transportation efficiency.
Jakarta — Danantara Operational Director Dony Oskaria, also head of BP BUMN, announced plans for the railway electrification groundbreaking on May 20, 2026. Priority routes are Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Sukabumi, and Jakarta-Cilegon, stated during the Jakarta Globe Insight event in Jakarta on Tuesday (April 28, 2026).
"This year, precisely on May 20, we will conduct the groundbreaking for the electrification of Jakarta-Cikampek, Jakarta-Sukabumi, and also Jakarta-Cilegon," Dony said. The electrification is expected to reduce urbanization, pollution, and improve rail transport efficiency.
Dony stressed that electrification is one of two key performance indicators (KPIs) for the railway industry, alongside safety. Previously, on October 20, 2025, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and PT PLN signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Jakarta Railways Center Auditorium for this collaboration.
The BUMN partnership is business-to-business without state budget involvement, supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the cooperation opens opportunities to expand electric rail networks and enhance service quality.
