Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that Rp 4 trillion budget for repairing 1,800 train crossing points will come from the state budget (APBN). The announcement follows President Prabowo's directive to enhance safety after a train accident in Bekasi. BP BUMN Head Dony Oskaria stated the program is part of the 2026 government work plan via the Transportation Ministry.
President Prabowo Subianto announced the government will repair 1,800 train crossing points on Java island with around Rp 4 trillion to boost public transport safety. He made the statement while visiting accident victims at RSUD dr. Chasbullah Abdulmadjid in Bekasi City on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. "We calculate around almost Rp 4 trillion, for safety," Prabowo said.
Many crossings lack guards and are legacy Dutch-era infrastructure untouched for decades. The president instructed officials to address them via guard posts or flyover bridges. "I will order to immediately repair all those crossings, whether with guard posts or flyovers, we'll appoint the implementers," he stated.
Airlangga Hartarto confirmed the funding from the state budget (APBN) at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta the same day. "Well, budgets always come from the same source (APBN)," he said.
Dony Oskaria added that the program prioritizes safety and is funded by the government through the Transportation Ministry, responsible for railway infrastructure. The latest accident involved a KRL and Argo Bromo Anggrek train collision at Bekasi Timur Station, with 10 fatalities identified.
