Trevor Tutu, the eldest child of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Leah Tutu, died on 15 June 2026 at the age of 70. The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation confirmed the death earlier this month. He passed away at an undisclosed location in Johannesburg.
Trevor Thamsanqa Armstrong Tutu was born on 14 April 1956 in Klerksdorp. He spent his childhood moving between South Africa and England due to his father's work as a priest. He attended Waterford Kamhlaba School in Swaziland, where he formed a lasting friendship with Ghaleb Cachalia.
In later years, Tutu worked for IBM, ran a marketing company and served as a historical tour guide in Soweto. He was married to Ntombizanele Tshabalala and is survived by his wife, daughter Palesa, son Lizo, mother Leah Tutu and three sisters.
At his memorial, Cachalia recalled their shared youth and described Tutu as "gloriously himself" and "entirely unforgettable". Palesa Tutu remembered her father as "unpredictable, impossible, funny and generous".
