Xbox games sell millions on PlayStation 5, analytics estimates show

Sales estimates from Alinea Analytics indicate that 13 Xbox titles have surpassed 100,000 copies each on PlayStation 5. Forza Horizon 5 leads with 5.8 million units sold on the platform. The games have collectively generated $667 million in gross revenue for Microsoft.

Alinea Analytics released estimates on Wednesday showing strong performance for recent Microsoft ports to PlayStation 5. The data covers 13 first-party Xbox games ported in the last two years, excluding titles like Call of Duty, Minecraft, and legacy games developed for PS5 prior to Microsoft's acquisitions. These titles cleared the 100,000-unit threshold on PS5, with Forza Horizon 5 topping the list at 5.8 million copies, followed by Sea of Thieves at 2.7 million and Oblivion Remastered at 1.2 million. Other notable performers include Grounded with 770,000 units, Gears of War: Reloaded at 684,000, and Doom: The Dark Ages at 567,000. Lower on the list are Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (537,000), Ninja Gaiden 4 (262,000), Microsoft Flight Simulator (252,000), Starfield (207,000), Age of Empires 2 Remastered (173,000), The Outer Worlds 2 (163,000), and Age of Mythology Retold (123,000). Analyst Rhys Elliott shared the figures on X, noting the games generated $667 million in gross revenue inclusive of Sony's platform cut, potentially netting Microsoft around $200 million after fees. The estimates highlight Forza Horizon 5 as Xbox's strongest franchise on rival hardware, with multiplayer titles like Sea of Thieves and Grounded benefiting from cross-play. Single-player releases such as Starfield showed weaker relative performance compared to remasters like Age of Empires titles. Alinea Analytics' data provides insight into Microsoft's multiplatform strategy amid a leadership change with new CEO Asha Sharma.
