Ana Botín bids farewell to Claudio Melandri leaving Santander Chile presidency

Santander Group's executive president, Ana Botín, offered farewell words to Claudio Melandri, who stepped down from Santander Chile's presidency after over a decade in the role and 37 years with the company. Botín praised his merit-based career and key role in making the bank the leader in Chile. Rodrigo Vergara will take over as the new non-executive board president.

In an internal communication to Banco Santander employees, Ana Botín thanked Claudio Melandri for his long career. Melandri, who devoted over 39 years to the financial industry—mostly with the Santander Group—started as an executive in a Santander Chile branch and rose to presidency for the last eight years, after two years in Venezuela and prior roles as general director and CEO. Botín stated: “Claudio is a clear example of meritocracy and effort,” highlighting his fundamental contribution to establishing Santander as Chile's leading bank, focused on innovation, clients, and social commitment. “Many thanks for everything Claudio,” she concluded on behalf of the group. Meanwhile, Botín welcomed Rodrigo Vergara, who joined Santander Chile in 2018 as first vice president and will now assume the non-executive board presidency alongside general manager Andrés Trautmann. “I am sure that [...] they will continue strengthening our position in the country,” she said. Andrés Trautmann, on his LinkedIn account, also bid farewell to Melandri: “There are trajectories that speak for themselves [...] it reflects the meritocracy culture at Santander.” Trautmann praised his close leadership, focused on results and clients, and welcomed Vergara for the bank's new stage.
