CNTE teachers carried out protests and road closures at several points in Mexico City on Friday, June 5, affecting traffic on main avenues.
The CNTE concentration was scheduled for 10:00 hours at the intersection of Avenida Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Insurgentes, as well as at the Antimonumento Ayotzinapa +43 on Reforma and Bucareli. Around 7 thousand people took part in the blockades at four points: Glorieta del Caballito, the Insurgentes and Reforma crossing, Glorieta del Ahuehuete and Ángel de la Independencia. Authorities indicated that the closures would conclude between 14:00 and 15:00 hours. Protesters demanded the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law and the 2019 Education Reform, plus a 100 percent base salary increase. The government proposed creating a public insurer for pensions, but teachers deemed it insufficient. Later, at 17:00 hours, a National Representative Assembly was held at the Sección IX headquarters to define the next steps of the movement.
