Colombians lead massive migration to Spain due to cultural ties and opportunities

Thousands of Latin Americans, led by Colombians, are choosing Spain as their main destination in Europe. Recent data shows the Colombian community has reached one million people, surpassing Moroccans.

Spain has received about half a million immigrants annually since 2022, reshaping its demographics. Colombians have doubled their numbers in three years to reach one million residents.

A total of 255,833 Colombians registered to vote in this year's Colombian elections, mainly in Madrid and Barcelona. Remittances sent from Spain rose to 2.204,8 million dollars in 2025.

Shared language, a stable economy with a 2.09 trillion dollar GDP, and the high-speed rail network drive the trend. Sunny weather and historical ties also ease adaptation.
