Comfama and BMI Insurance launch life insurance with savings from 20,000 pesos

Comfama and BMI Seguros Colombia launched 'Ahorro Seguro', a product combining life insurance and savings with monthly contributions starting at 20,000 pesos. It targets individuals over 18, from young workers starting their careers to families seeking affordable financial protection. The initiative aims to promote saving habits among low-income segments.

On November 27, Comfama and BMI Seguros Colombia introduced 'Ahorro Seguro', a life insurance product that incorporates a savings component. It allows monthly contributions starting from 20,000 pesos, an accessible amount in Colombia's financial insurance market.

The insurance structure is straightforward: about 50% of the premium paid by the affiliate goes directly to a personal savings fund, which earns compound interest. The remainder covers life protection. In the event of death, beneficiaries receive the insured sum plus the accumulated capital. If the insured survives, the savings remain available for future use.

Cristina Hernández, head of Financial Services at Comfama, noted that the partnership aims to support building financial well-being. "The emphasis is on facilitating the saving habit from low amounts and with a clear purpose," she explained. Meanwhile, Ximena Alcalde, commercial manager at BMI Seguros, stressed that savings are central to the product. "That capital accumulates returns with compound interest and adds to the traditional life insurance coverage," she said.

'Ahorro Seguro' includes additional perks like cashback at allied stores, encouraging usage and providing extra returns. It is tailored for Comfama affiliates, many earning between one and two minimum wages, broadening access to preventive financial tools.

This collaboration merges Comfama's knowledge of its affiliates with BMI's expertise in savings-inclusive insurance, fostering a culture of financial planning beyond emergencies. The product is now available through Comfama's channels.
