Efforts underway to strengthen traditional courts in Central Ethiopia

The Central Ethiopia Region Culture and Tourism Bureau announced ongoing work to strengthen traditional justice systems. The Elders Forum plays a key role in peacebuilding efforts across the region.

Degneh Bogale, head of the culture sector, said customary justice contributes significantly to resolving disputes in the community.

A proclamation establishing cultural courts was recently approved and is being implemented, leading to a sharp reduction in crimes and stronger community bonds, he added.

Capacity building training for the Elders Forum is underway in Hosanna town to strengthen traditional justice structures. The system resolves conflicts through arbitration and reconciliation.
