Hashem highlighted the strong strategic relations between the two countries, underpinned by historical ties and proximity.

Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem hosted a high-level Eritrean delegation in Cairo to discuss enhancing economic partnership. He emphasized that strategic relations between Egypt and Eritrea are supported by a long history of close cooperation and geographic and political proximity, with Egypt committed to expanding ties in industrial development and joint investments for sustainable growth.

The talks identified priority sectors including agro-industries, mining, fisheries, renewable energy—particularly solar power—and industrial infrastructure development. Hashem proposed establishing a joint Egyptian-Eritrean business council to boost private sector involvement, alongside Egypt’s support for Eritrea’s local manufacturing strategies, technical expertise deployment, feasibility studies, and human capital development through vocational training centers.

Hagos Gebrehiwet expressed Eritrea’s eagerness to deepen cooperation with Egypt as a key regional partner, aiming to develop a roadmap for collaboration across economic sectors. Discussions also covered boosting trade exchange, addressing banking and transport challenges, and enhancing investment flows by leveraging both countries’ comparative advantages, with Eritrea seeking Egypt’s expertise in agro-industrial manufacturing and workforce development.
