Egypt jumps 47 places in World Bank's digital government index to rank 22nd globally

Egypt has climbed 47 places to rank 22nd globally in the World Bank's 2025 Digital Government Maturity Index, achieving a maturity score of 0.911 out of 1. This marks a significant improvement from its previous 69th position and score of 0.751 in 2022, placing it firmly in the index's highest Category (A).

The World Bank has reported a notable advancement for Egypt in its 2025 Digital Government Maturity Index, rising from 69th to 22nd globally. Egypt secured a maturity score of 0.911, up from 0.751 in the 2022 edition, solidifying its standing in Category (A), the index's top tier.

Progress was evident across all four core pillars: supporting core government systems and automation scored 0.916, an increase from 0.783; digital government service delivery reached 0.962, from 0.795; digital participation and citizen engagement improved to 0.896 from 0.626; and digital government enablers advanced to 0.869 from 0.802.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat attributed the results to the success of the Digital Egypt strategy and the ministry's push to accelerate digital transformation and establish an effective digital government ecosystem. He noted that initiatives include automating government processes, expanding services via the Digital Egypt platform, integrating modern technologies, and supporting citizen engagement through policies like the Open Data Policy.

Talaat emphasized ongoing efforts to build digital infrastructure and train professionals in emerging technologies. Key projects include the Government Innovation Lab at the Digital Egypt Innovation Centre in Giza, aimed at boosting govtech startups and service quality. Over the past five years, Egypt has progressed from Category (B) with a 0.649 score in 2020 to its current position, reflecting a 21.3 percent maturity increase.
