Ethiopia prepares strategy for sustainable electricity access

The Ministry of Water and Energy announced that a strategy is being prepared to make sustainable and reliable electricity accessible across the country. This was revealed during a workshop on the third phase of the National Electric Access Program.

State Minister for Energy Development Sultan Wali said electricity is crucial for growth and any development activity. Affordable renewable sustainable and reliable energy access will ensure Ethiopia's prosperity and sustainable development.

Engineer Ashber Balcha chief executive of Ethiopian Electric Power said construction of power generation transmission and distribution stations will be strengthened. Getu Geremew chief executive of Ethiopian Electric Service said the program aims to deliver electricity across the country until 2035.

The third phase of the National Electric Access Program requires more than 18 billion dollars. Energy policy is also being revised to increase private sector participation.
