FGR takes over investigation into disappearance of journalist Roxana Guzmán in Veracruz

The Fiscalía General de la República has taken over the case of the abduction of journalist Roxana Guzmán in Veracruz more than a week after she was violently taken from her home.

Veracruz state attorney general Lisbeth Aurelia Jiménez Aguirre confirmed that local authorities carried out interviews, expert reports and search efforts before the FGR exercised its power to take over the case. Notification arrived two afternoons ago and the file has already been delivered in Mexico City.

No one has been detained in Guzmán’s case. The two local lines of inquiry remain active and state authorities will cooperate with federal prosecutors.

Jiménez Aguirre referred to earlier speculation about the journalist’s whereabouts and stressed that everything must be viewed in context. The case now continues under federal investigation.
