FHC Foundation launches project with redemocratization interviews

The Fernando Henrique Cardoso Foundation launches the 'Scenes of Redemocratization' project, digitizing 126 recordings from the TV Gazeta program Vamos Sair da Crise, aired between 1987 and 1993. The initiative recovers discussions with key political figures from Brazil's democratic transition period. The launch features a debate among involved journalists and writers.

The Fernando Henrique Cardoso Foundation announced the launch of the 'Scenes of Redemocratization' project on Monday (23). The initiative makes available excerpts and full interviews from the program Vamos Sair da Crise, hosted by journalist Alexandre Machado on TV Gazeta from 1987 to 1993. The program became notable for fostering debates with political leaders during Brazil's redemocratization process following the military regime.

The foundation recovered, digitized, and cataloged 126 original VHS tape recordings. Among the discussion participants are figures such as Leonel Brizola, Ulysses Guimarães, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, current president of the Republic.

At the launch event, a debate takes place featuring Alexandre Machado, writer Fernando Gabeira, and journalist Eliane Cantanhêde, moderated by political scientist Sergio Fausto, the foundation's executive director. The project includes nine minidocumentaries: three highlight excerpts from 1989 presidential candidates' speeches, and another covers the Collor Plan, an economic measure under Fernando Collor de Mello's government that involved the confiscation of Brazilians' savings.

This preservation of historical materials aims to document a crucial period in the country's recent history, making accessible conversations that shaped public debate at the time.
