Former Japan PM Fumio Kishida to visit Philippines ahead of Marcos' Japan trip

Japan’s former prime minister Fumio Kishida will visit the Philippines this week as special envoy for energy cooperation under AZEC, paving the way for President Marcos' upcoming state visit to Japan to strengthen bilateral ties, the Japanese embassy in Manila said.

MANILA, Philippines — Japan’s former prime minister Fumio Kishida will visit Manila from April 30 to May 2 as special envoy of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and supreme advisor to the Parliamentary Association of Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), the Japanese embassy in Manila announced.

Kishida will meet Philippine officials to 'exchange views on promoting tangible initiatives under AZEC and strengthening bilateral relations, among others.' This visit precedes President Marcos' state trip to Japan from May 26 to 29, aimed at reaffirming the Philippines-Japan strategic partnership.

Japan pledged $10 billion in financial support for Southeast Asian economies amid the Middle East crisis threatening oil procurement. Takaichi announced the Partnership On Wide Energy and Resources Resilience during an online meeting with Asian leaders and AZEC partners to bolster energy supply chains.
