Gachagua affirms 2027 presidential bid regardless of court ruling

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reaffirmed his commitment to contest the 2027 presidency, stating that his bid will continue irrespective of the High Court decision on his 2024 impeachment.

Speaking on Inooro TV on Thursday, Gachagua said the law allows him to vie for any public office as long as his case remains active. He noted the awaited decision on Monday will come from the High Court and can be appealed if unsatisfactory. Gachagua was removed from office in October 2024 after being found guilty on five of 11 charges presented by MP Mwengi Mutuse. The move involved cooperation among UDA, ODM and Jubilee parties. He stressed he can continue leading from his home in Wamunyoro while backing a single opposition candidate such as Martha Karua or others. He urged his supporters to maintain peace and hope.
