Gilas Women claim first FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup medal despite final loss to Australia

Gilas Women 3x3 fell 18-9 to Australia in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup final on April 5 in Singapore, securing the Philippines' first-ever medal in the tournament. It marked the first time a Philippine team reached the final. Afril Bernardino led their semifinal comeback win over Japan.

At OCBC Square in Singapore, Gilas Women started slowly against Australia, which jumped to a 6-0 lead before the Philippines mounted a response. Veteran Afril Bernardino scored three straight points to cut the deficit to 7-12 with under three minutes left, but Australia sealed the win with three consecutive two-pointers from Kristy Wallace and Amy Atwell, who tallied a game-high 8 points.

Bernardino led Gilas Women with 4 points, while Kacey dela Rosa added 3 in the loss. The victory gave Australia its sixth women’s title and fourth in a row, following wins in 2017, 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Gilas Women reached the final after a 21-19 comeback semifinal victory over 2025 runner-up Japan, erasing a 16-19 deficit with a 5-0 run from Dela Rosa, Bernardino, and Cheska Apag.

Meanwhile, Gilas Pilipinas 3x3 advanced to the quarterfinals before falling 18-15 to South Korea.
