Government approves funds for KBC to broadcast 2026 World Cup

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has confirmed that the government has approved funding to enable KBC to broadcast the 2026 FIFA World Cup on free-to-air television.

Mbadi made the announcement on June 4 when Gor Mahia FC visited his office at the Treasury in Nairobi. He said the national government has already approved the funding needed to secure the free-to-air rights. KBC requires an estimated KSh 150 million to acquire the broadcast rights. Without the funds, Kenyans would have been limited to pay-TV channels Azam TV, New World TV and SuperSport. KBC Managing Director Kaleche is finalising the arrangements. The tournament featuring 48 teams starts on June 11 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
