Government launches 18 million euros plan to research women's health

Pedro Sánchez has announced a program that will triple annual investment in biomedical research focused on women to 18 million euros.

The president of the government presented the program 'Somos. Contamos: fin de la discriminación de las mujeres en la investigación de la salud' on Monday. The initiative aims to correct historical under-research and gender biases in the biomedical field.

Sánchez explained that the plan focuses on three main axes. It includes a specific mission through the Center for Technological Development and Innovation, a new funding line for the Carlos III Health Institute, and predoctoral contracts at the State Research Agency.

The program will prioritize the study of endometriosis, menopause, and mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. Sánchez noted that it seeks to address a structural inequality in biomedical research and innovation.
