Documents released by the US Justice Department reveal close ties between former minister Jack Lang, his daughter Caroline, and Jeffrey Epstein. These include a 2019 photo and a 2016 co-founded offshore company, leading Caroline to resign from her recent position. No formal accusations are made against them.
On February 3, 2026, the US Justice Department released nearly three million pages of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, the American financier arrested on July 6, 2019, for sex trafficking and found dead in prison on August 10. Among the French names cited are Jack Lang, former Culture Minister and president of the Arab World Institute, and his daughter Caroline Lang.
A March 2019 text exchange highlights Jack Lang's proximity to Epstein. The financier writes to Steve Bannon, ex-advisor to Donald Trump: “I’m at the pyramid. With the whole government,” referring to the Macron government. He sends a photo of himself and Jack Lang smiling in front of the Louvre Pyramid, commenting: “Just us two. (…) French power.” Bannon replies: “Coup de force.”
Regarding Caroline Lang, a respected figure in audiovisual with a career at Warner Bros, the documents reveal she co-founded the offshore company Prytanee LLC in 2016 with Epstein, based in the British Virgin Islands. Intended for art acquisitions, this entity is described as a “perfectly legal fund” by Caroline in a statement to AFP. Jack Lang fully assumes “his links” with Epstein, at a time when the extent of his crimes was unknown.
Appointed deputy general of the Independent Producers Syndicate (SPI) in early January 2026, Caroline Lang resigned after three weeks to avoid harming the organization. Paris lawyer Dylan Slama emphasizes caution: “It’s not because a name appears in a document that there is necessarily penal involvement.” No judicial proceedings are open in France based solely on this, as Epstein maintained numerous social and professional relations in the country.
These revelations renew interest in a possible “French angle” to the case, without formal charges.
