Addis Ababa, July 21, 2026. The Koysha power plant project has completed the first phase of concrete filling for its powerhouse.

Civil engineer Yitagesu Ayalew said the project ranks third in Ethiopia's power development sector after the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and Gibe-3. Of the 7.725 million cubic meters of armata filling, more than 6.2 million cubic meters have been completed. Work proceeds around the clock in two shifts, averaging over 100,000 cubic meters per month.

The dam now reaches 623 meters above sea level, making its height 136 meters. For the spillway gates, 7.7 million cubic meters of excavation have been done, and structural armata filling stands at 45 percent complete.

The dam will house six turbines, each with 300 megawatts capacity. Electromechanical installation and all turbine components are in production. Local experts have benefited from technology and knowledge transfer during the project.
