Lula government repudiates Flávio Bolsonaro participation in US hearing

The Brazilian government released a note on Tuesday repudiating Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's intervention in a USTR hearing on tariffs against Brazil.

The note from the Presidency's Social Communication Secretariat classifies the senator's appearance at the public hearing held on July 7 as an intervention that legitimizes an unjust investigation. The document accuses Flávio of citing the Master case without mentioning ties to Daniel Vorcaro and of suggesting a delay in tariffs for electoral purposes.

The text states that disagreeing with the government is legitimate, but summoning a foreign power against the country amounts to betrayal of the homeland. Of 34 Brazilians registered, only Flávio did not position himself against the measures, according to the government.

The statement follows a morning meeting of ministers with USTR technicians to reverse 25% tariffs announced in June. The USTR has investigated Brazil since July 2025 under Section 301.
