Marco Antonio Almanza, former head of the Sinaloa Investigative Police, denied in a video that he surrendered to US authorities and confirmed he remains in Culiacán.
Almanza released a brief recording after reports claimed he had surrendered. In the video, he said he was the target of discrediting the previous day and called for the truth to be told.
On May 26 he appeared before the Fiscalía General de la República. There he stated he had no reason to surrender to the United States.
Almanza is accused alongside license governor Rubén Rocha Moya and other former officials of links to Los Chapitos. The accusations include receiving up to 60 thousand dollars monthly to allow transit of fentanyl chemical precursors.
Gerardo Mérida Sánchez, another accused former official, surrendered on May 11 in Arizona. His first hearing is scheduled for June 1.
