Brazil's attorney general Paulo Gonet stated that Jair Bolsonaro should remain under house arrest but without possession of the pistol seized from his security guard.
Gonet sent his statement to Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes on Wednesday, July 1. He concluded that the seizure does not amount to a disciplinary violation by the former president and supported keeping the current regime in place.
The Federal Police report indicted security guard Estácio Leite da Silva Filho for illegal gun possession. No evidence or intent of crime was found regarding Bolsonaro, a conclusion also reached by the Federal District Civil Police.
Bolsonaro's house arrest, granted in March for health reasons, ended on June 25. Moraes is expected to decide on any extension after hearing the former president's defense.
