The Polda Metro Jaya Begal Hunter Team arrested eight street crime suspects in Jakarta. One case handled involved the snatching of a phone from an Italian national at Bundaran HI.
Director of Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya Commissioner General Iman Imannuddin said three of the eight suspects were the main perpetrators of the phone snatching at Bundaran HI. Based on preliminary examinations the three suspects had carried out acts at 120 different locations.
The special operation came amid a rise in robbery cases across several Jakarta areas including West Jakarta. Police charged the suspects under Articles 466 to 479 of the Criminal Code for violent theft.
Metro Jaya Police Chief Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri ordered his personnel to take firm action against perpetrators endangering the public in line with Regulation Number 1 of 2009. The newly formed begal hunter task force has uncovered six cases in the DKI Jakarta area.
