Power supply restored after three-week interruption

Power supply disrupted for three weeks following the filling of the Abujata Reservoir has been restored. The interruption occurred due to submerged electrical conductors, but collaborative maintenance efforts resolved the issue.

Addis Ababa, Hidar 27, 2018 (Fana) – Power supply interrupted for three weeks following the filling of the Abujata Reservoir has been restored. The disruption affected the Kositch Soda Factory when electrical conductors en route submerged due to rising water levels, as stated by Ato Taha Ahmed, Director of the Adama Region for the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation.

“To restore the interrupted power, a test of the reservoir's water level was conducted,” he explained, noting that collaboration between corporation staff and the factory provided a permanent solution to the recurring interruptions. The conductors, mounted on wooden poles, repeatedly submerged, causing outages. For a lasting fix, the wooden poles were replaced with seven concrete ones.

To ensure power reaches the factory, a new 600-meter transmission line was installed, incorporating nine additional wooden poles for a total of 15 poles, officials confirmed. The maintenance was completed by Bulbula Service Center employees in less than a week, according to Ato Anwar Abrore, Communications Officer for the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation, speaking to Fana Digital.
