PSSI will use an old method to select the new coach for Indonesia's national team, requiring candidates to present concepts to the Executive Committee. This approach mirrors the selection process between Shin Tae-yong and Luis Milla years ago. PSSI Vice General Chairman Zainudin Amali emphasized the transparency of the process.
PSSI is opening the selection process for the new coach of Indonesia's national team using a method previously employed when choosing Shin Tae-yong (STY) over Luis Milla. PSSI Vice General Chairman Zainudin Amali stated that candidates will be required to present their concepts alternately to the PSSI Executive Committee, as done during Mochamad Iriawan's leadership.
"There was a good mechanism we used when determining STY before. There were two candidates, STY and Luis Milla," said Zainudin. At that time, the Exco decided on STY after both candidates' presentations. Zainudin believes this pattern enhances transparency, allowing all Exco members to understand the reasons for each nomination.
"I think we will do the process like that again. Everything is transparent. The Exco knows all the candidates," Zainudin said. He affirmed that this mechanism is the best procedure PSSI has ever implemented. BTN Chairman Sumardji is tasked with providing candidate names and reasons before presentation to the Exco.
This process is also linked to a protest by Ultras Garuda supporters on November 14, 2025, demanding a new coach and changes in PSSI, including "Erick Thohir Out". Sumardji, an Exco member, stated that PSSI respects the supporters' democratic rights. "Expressing opinions publicly is a right as citizens. We will accommodate and listen to everything," Sumardji emphasized at Madya Stadium.
Sumardji revealed there are already five candidate names but declined to disclose them. The final decision will be ratified by the Exco after approval from Technical Director Alex Zwiers. Zainudin hopes for a quick announcement, though the final name has not yet been narrowed down. "Once it's clear, we'll bring it straight to the Exco for presentation," he said.
