Russia offers more oil and gas to India in New Delhi bilateral talks

Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov met Indian leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, offering increased supplies of oil, natural gas, and fertilizers amid regional tensions. The two sides discussed boosting cooperation in trade, energy, and fertilizers. Russian companies have the capacity to steadily increase oil and LNG supplies to the Indian market, the Russian embassy said.

In New Delhi on Thursday, Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Modi said on social media that he and Manturov discussed "mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, fertilisers, connectivity and people-to-people ties". He lauded efforts to implement outcomes from the India-Russia Summit during President Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi in December 2025. Jaishankar said the two sides focused on bilateral cooperation in trade, industry, energy, fertilisers, connectivity and mobility, while exploring opportunities in technology, innovation and critical minerals.

The Russian embassy stated that Russian companies "have the capacity to steadily increase supplies of oil and liquefied natural gas to the Indian market". Supplies of mineral fertilisers to India increased by 40% by the end of 2025, with a joint carbamide production project under development.

India faces disruptions in energy and fertiliser supplies due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz from the West Asia conflict triggered by Israel and US strikes on Iran. Russia has become India's largest energy supplier following a US sanctions waiver. Manturov highlighted nuclear energy cooperation, with Kudankulam nuclear power plant reactors on schedule. India recently approved acquiring five more S-400 air defence systems from Russia.
