Sattur MLA A.R.R. Raghuraman, from MDMK and elected on DMK symbol, joined the BJP on Tuesday. The switch occurred just before Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's election meeting in Sattur. Raghuraman cited lack of respect in the DMK regime.
Sattur MLA A.R.R. Raghuraman (Dr. Raghuraman), an MDMK member who won the last election on the DMK symbol, joined the BJP on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The event took place in the presence of State BJP president and Sattur candidate Nainar Nagenthran.
Raghuraman arrived at the venue with Nagenthran and AIADMK leader Kadambur C. Raju an hour before Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's election meeting. The gathering targeted voters from the Naidu community, which has a significant presence in Sattur.
Addressing the crowd in Telugu, Raghuraman claimed he received no respect as an MLA under the DMK regime. He told The Hindu that Nagenthran and Raju had visited his home that day and invited him to work for the BJP. "I joined the BJP today," he said.
On the same day, Naidu conducted a nearly one-km roadshow with Nagenthran to wind up campaigning. He stated that the crime rate had increased in Tamil Nadu and that the corrupt DMK government was no longer needed, with the NDA required for the state's development.
