Steelers offensive coordinator discusses mellowed coaching style

Brian Angelichio, the new offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, said his approach during practice has softened with age while his core message to players remains unchanged.

In an interview with Steelers.com’s Missi Matthews, Angelichio noted that he has probably mellowed some as he has gotten older. He emphasized honesty and transparency, saying there should not be any gray area and that he aims to be authentic and passionate about the game.

Angelichio, now in his 50s, will lead the Steelers offense in training camp with a quieter voice than in past roles. He previously coached tight ends for the Green Bay Packers, where he earned a reputation for a vociferous style.

This marks Angelichio’s first NFL offensive coordinator position after serving in that role at Division II Ithaca. Mike McCarthy will handle play calling for Pittsburgh, while Angelichio contributes to game planning. The hire reunites him with McCarthy from their time together in Green Bay.
