Pittsburgh Steelers second-round pick Germie Bernard discussed his experiences training with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his approach to his rookie season in recent interviews. Bernard, who selected jersey number 17, highlighted the challenges and benefits of working with the veteran quarterback. He also shared insights into his preparation and confidence entering the NFL.
Bernard addressed the demands of playing alongside Rodgers during an appearance on the Bigtime Talks podcast. “This is his last year. He’s finna tear it up for his last year,” he said. “He’s elite, bro. Being around him, bro, you really gotta lock in with everything. But he’s also gonna help you get better.”
The wide receiver explained his jersey choice in the same interview. He selected No. 17 to honor Davante Adams, one of his favorite receivers. Bernard noted that he studies Adams’ film in detail rather than highlights.
On his overall mindset, Bernard emphasized confidence and preparation. “It was just all about confidence for me,” he said. “It’s just knowing that I’ve been playing this game for a long time, but it’s like you wouldn’t be there if you wasn’t talented enough to play.” He credited his time at Alabama for helping him learn professional habits.
Bernard was drafted by the Steelers near the top of the second round after recording 64 receptions for 862 yards and seven touchdowns in his final college season. He is expected to compete for a role in the receiving corps alongside veterans.
