UI legal experts say Kerry Riza verdict can be overturned

The FHUI Institute for the Study of Procedural Law and Judicial Systems assessed that the 15-year prison sentence against Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza can be annulled due to insufficient judicial considerations.

The examination of the Jakarta Tipikor Court decision took place during a dissemination event at the UI Depok campus on Tuesday 26 May 2026. Flora Dianti stated that the ruling did not apply fair trial principles and explore evidence so it should be annulled.

Topo Santoso assessed that prosecutors failed to prove criminal elements and causality with state losses. He stressed that business matters should not be forced into corruption cases.

Flora added that these reasons can serve as grounds for appeal or even government intervention through abolition and rehabilitation. Topo highlighted the application of the business judgment rule when assessing business decisions.
