YMCA removes gender identity language from website

The YMCA has deleted references to gender identity and diversity, equity, and inclusion from one of its web pages following a report on its policies.

The organization removed a section that had pledged to support individuals regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. The change occurred after The Daily Wire reported on efforts by the American Parents Coalition to alert families about YMCA camp policies.

A YMCA spokesman said the page was no longer in use and would expire at the end of the year. The spokesman added that the group revised the language to align with other content after reviewing programs in response to an executive order from the Trump administration on DEI initiatives.

Local YMCA camps continue to list policies that allow housing based on gender identity. Some sites, including the Sherman Lake YMCA in Michigan and Camp Gorham in New York, describe options for trans and non-binary campers and privacy rules for sharing identity information with parents.

Alleigh Marré of the American Parents Coalition said the deletions do not change the underlying policies and that her group will keep raising concerns about fairness and safety.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons (BOP) issued a new program statement on February 19, 2026, titled “Management of Inmates with Gender Dysphoria,” setting out mental-health “evaluation and treatment” guidelines that describe gender dysphoria as a DSM-5-TR mental health diagnosis and define gender identity as “disconnected from biological reality and sex.” Advocates say the policy would end or restrict gender-affirming hormones and require the removal of gender-affirming personal items, but a federal court order in Kingdom v. Trump has required the BOP to continue providing hormone therapy and certain accommodations while the case proceeds.

Students and advocates urged the Cabarrus County School Board to protect female-only bathrooms and locker rooms at Cox Mill High School. They cited discomfort from a male student identifying as female using those spaces. The board took no action following public comments.
