PRI leader Alejandro Moreno reacted critically on social media, calling López a 'narcosenador' and rejecting any ties to organized crime. López will now focus on territorial work ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adán Augusto López Hernández, a Morena senator, stepped down as coordinator of Morena's Parliamentary Group last Sunday, which also means leaving the presidency of the Senate's Board of Political Coordination (Jucopo). Ignacio Mier Velasco was appointed as his successor in the coordination role. This shift happens amid Morena's preparations for the 2027 midterm elections, with López describing it as a strategic repositioning rather than internal pressures.
López's new office is located in the block assigned to the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). Reports indicate it is next to the offices of PRI senators such as Pablo Angulo Briceño, Ángel García Yáñez, and Manuel Añorve Baños. Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, the PRI leader known as 'Alito', shared his reaction on social media.
Moreno posted: “¿Y cómo por qué nos pusieron al apestado de vecino? Si en MORENA ya no quieren al ‘narcosenador’ que los coordinaba, ese es su problema. Allá ellos con sus broncas, sus pactos y su mugrero interno”. He added: “Entre los priistas no tiene por qué estar. Aquí no hay espacio para ningún aliado del crimen organizado ni se barre la basura debajo del tapete”.
Following his departure from the coordination, López will focus on grassroots political work. His main goal is to tour regions across the country to bolster Morena's presence, particularly in the Fourth Electoral District, covering Mexico City, Guerrero, Morelos, Puebla, and Tlaxcala. This involves strengthening local networks, expanding membership, and coordinating with aligned state governments, emphasizing field operations vital for the upcoming electoral calendar.
