Developers at Ubisoft shared new insights into Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced during interviews at a recent event in San Francisco. The remake, which began development in 2023, will launch on July 9 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It features a full overhaul using the latest Anvil engine.
Creative director Paul Fu and game director Richard Knight emphasized that the project is a complete remake rather than a remaster. They noted it contains no original code and includes new systems, content, and quality-of-life improvements to make it feel like a modern Assassin's Creed title. Fu said a good remake requires more than a graphical update, aiming instead for expansions that align with current player expectations.
