Mamlaka ya Rasilimali za Maji imeamuru wakazi wa maeneo sita karibu na Bwawa la Nairobi kuhamishwa mara moja huku mvua nzito zikiendelea. Bwawa hilo katika eneo la Kibera linahatarika kulipuka, na hatari kwa maeneo ya chini ya mkondo. Wakazi wengine wamewekwa kwenye tahadhari.

Mamlaka ya Rasilimali za Maji (WRA) imetoa taarifa ya kuhamishwa mara moja kwa wakazi wa makazi ya Kibera, Nyayo Highrise, Dam Estate, Lang'ata, Nairobi West na Madaraka, karibu na Bwawa la Nairobi liko kando ya Mto Ngong, takriban kilomita 5 kusini-magharibi mwa CBD. Taarifa hiyo ya tarehe Ijumaa, Machi 20, ilisainiwa na Noel Ndeti, Msimamizi wa Kaunti Ndogo, na inasema: “Kutokana na mvua nzito zinazoendelea, wakazi wanaoishi chini ya mkondo wa bwawa la Nairobi wanaonya hatari ya mafuriko ya karibu kutokana na viwango vya maji yanayopanda katika hifadhi ambavyo vinatishia kuvunja ukingo wa bwawa.” Wakazi wengine wa Mukuru Slums (Kwa Njenga, Reuben na Viwandani), South B, Pipeline, Embakasi na Industrial Area wamewekwa tahadhari. Siku 10 zilizopita, serikali iliwahamasisha wakazi kuwa macho, na Msemaji wa Serikali Isaac Mwaura alisema: “Serikali inafuatilia kwa karibu viwango vya maji vinavyopanda kwenye Bwawa la Nairobi na inashauri wakazi wanaoishi chini ya mkondo kuwa macho. Uchunguzi wa kiufundi wa bwawa unaendelea.” Idara ya Hali ya Hewa ya Kenya ilitabiri mvua za wastani hadi nzito na radi za umeme zitaendelea hadi Jumapili, zikipungua Jumatatu, na mmiliki zaidi wa mm 20 kwa saa 24 katika Dagoretti, Kibra, sehemu za Embakasi na Lang’ata. Ijumaa, mvua zilisababisha machafuko kwenye Moi Avenue na Mombasa Road, bila vifo kuripotiwa.
