Ikulu inapewa ulinzi wa siku 14 kuondoa ukuta kwenye ardhi ya riparian

Mamlaka ya Rasilimali za Maji (WRA) imetoa ulinzi wa siku 14 kwa Ikulu ili kuondoa sehemu ya ukuta wake uliojengwa kwenye ardhi ya riparian kando ya Mto Kirichwa Kubwa huko Nairobi. Ulinzi huo ulitolewa wakati wa ukaguzi wa leo uliofanywa na Mkurugenzi Mtendaji Mohamed Moulid Shurie pamoja na Gavana wa Nairobi Johnson Sakaja. Rais William Ruto alikuwa ametangaza tayari kufuata kanuni za mazingira.

Wakati wa ukaguzi wa jioni ya Jumanne, maafisa walitambua na kuweka alama sehemu za ukuta wa Ikulu zilizovamia ardhi ya riparian. Notisi rasmi ilitolewa kwa taasisi hiyo ili kubomoa sehemu iliyoathiriwa ndani ya siku 14.

Mkurugenzi Mtendaji Shurie alisema, "Tunataka kuwaambia Wanakenya, wale walioko ndani ya riparian, tafadhali hamisheni, kabla hatujafika. Tunataka kumaliza zoezi hili haraka iwezekanavyo. Mtatuona tukizunguka."

Gavana Sakaja alisherehekea hatua hiyo, akisema, “Nataka kumshukuru Rais. Yeye ndiye mpangaji mkuu hapa na ameongoza kwa mfano. Ikiwa ukuta huu wa Ikulu utashuka, basi kila muundo mwingine kwenye ardhi ya riparian lazima uondolewe.”

Rais Ruto alisema wiki iliyopita katika hotuba yake kwenye Bunge la Nairobi, “Tumepewa notisi kutoka kwa wakala mwingi unaodai ardhi ya riparian kwamba sehemu ya mpaka wa Ikulu, ukuta kando ya Mto Kirichwa Kubwa, uko ndani ya hifadhi ya riparian, na lazima ushuke. Wamenieleza angalau mita 15 kutoka alama ya juu.”

Hatua hii ni sehemu ya Programu ya Kurejesha Mito ya Nairobi, iliyopangiwa zaidi ya Ksh50 bilioni ili kurejesha hifadhi za riparian, kujenga njia za watembea kwa miguu na baiskeli, na maeneo ya umma.
