Battlefield 6 tests footstep audio and hit registration improvements

Developer Battlefield Studios is hosting a short-notice Battlefield Labs test for Battlefield 6 on December 2, focusing on enhanced footstep audio and hit registration. The two-hour PC-only session previews changes coming in the game's December 9 update. Players must sign up in advance and agree to a non-disclosure agreement to participate.

Test Details

The test runs from 4-6 PM PT on December 2, 2025, and features the Conquest and Escalation modes on the Eastwood and Operation Firestorm maps. It aims to gather feedback on combat enhancements, including footstep audio updates that improve distance perception, surface definition, and enemy audibility. Network and hit registration tweaks are also included to ensure more consistent interactions and better responsiveness in close-quarters and high-intensity combat, alongside broader adjustments to key combat systems.

Access is available through the EA app or Steam for registered Battlefield Labs participants. Battlefield Studios announced the session via the official Battlefield Comms account on X.

Future Plans

This quick test is the first of more short-notice sessions designed to provide rapid insights on focused gameplay changes. Larger playtests will explore new features and content before release. Battlefield Studios stated, "In the months ahead, we'll use Battlefield Labs to look at a broader range of early concepts and experimental scenarios that benefit from real player insight." They added, "Beyond that, we are preparing future Lab sessions that explore changes to map layouts, pacing, and alternative team compositions such as smaller player counts or vehicle-focused setups."

Game Context

Battlefield 6, released in 2025, has achieved significant success as the year's best-selling game in the US by dollar sales and the highest first-month sales since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2022. It remains uncertain whether it will surpass this year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in total sales. The game is midway through its first season, with the December 9 update introducing a new limited-time map and an ice-climbing axe melee weapon. Anti-cheat measures have ensured 98% of matches are free from cheaters.
